Course Description:

This training offers an in-depth look at creative techniques and the effectiveness of integrating art experientials and EMDR. EMDR therapists often look for effective ways to utilize EMDR therapy when working with clients experiencing complex symptoms. Integrating creative techniques throughout the 8 phases of EMDR can provide a sense of safety and support to clients ranging from children, adolescents, and adults.

Creative intervention creates a space for clients to express thoughts and emotions through a non-threatening modality. Paired with EMDR, clients are presented a way to process complex trauma with the option of non-verbal communication through the art.

Content / Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify a series of specific creative techniques and directives to support and enhance client's therapeutic work through the EMDR 8-phase model.
  2. Demonstrate a variety of creative techniques by engaging in creative art experientials.
  3. Identify connections between creative modalities and EMDR therapy by recognizing how the brain processes and stores information.
  4. Identify creative art techniques when working with complex cases.
  5. Summarize the benefits of integrating creative techniques with EMDR therapy.
