Course Description:

This workshop will show how to make mindfulness a two-way process for people who come to
therapy with racing thoughts, potent emotions, and harsh inner voices. A method is presented
that gradually leads people into a state of self-awareness. The counselor becomes a real-time
guide for distinguishing observation from thought, accessing body sensations, making the past
present, and executing transformative experiments in mindfulness. A partnership is formed that
creates the safety to experience painful material while introducing healing elements that are the
elixir for change. This enhances the therapeutic alliance needed in the preparation phases of
EMDR.

The material presented draws heavily from mindfulness based somatic methods that are
part of the “third wave” of psychotherapy. Rather than teaching meditation as a tool for
emotional regulation, two-way mindfulness becomes the matrix that allows transformation to
happen. This interactive event is replete with demonstrations and practice sessions in breakout
rooms.
