Enhance your clinical practice by accessing inner voices in a natural, experiential way. This program considers personality parts as features of freely flowing mental associations. They are dealt with as they emerge, either by “taking over” their words or by personifying them visually. Participants will experience how pictures simultaneously increase the felt sense of flawed thoughts and create distance from them. Positive images are used as projection tools to uncover inner assets. Partner exercises and a live demonstration will show how to externalize distress, find hidden strengths, and transform symptoms through mindful dialogue.
Parts work is often used in conjunction with EMDR, especially in the case of complex trauma. The approach in this program is easily adapted to the eight phases of treatment as there is no need for abstract terminologies and theoretical explanations found in other ego-state or IFS approaches. The material presented draws heavily from Hakomi, Mindfulness Centered Somatic Psychotherapy. Counselors and therapists will find this method effective in almost any clinical setting. In this Socratic seminar participants and presenter co-create an engaging learning experience.

Kate Cohen-Posey
MS, LMHC, LMFTÂ
Kate Cohen-Posey MS, LMHC LMFT was introduced to parts work at an EMDR conference in the year 2000. She returned from that two-hour workshop and completely changed her approach to therapy. She studied the methods of others who blazed the trail of a multifaceted approach to
the mind: Roberto Assaologi, Hal and Sidra Stone, Jack and Helen Watkins, and Richard Schwartz, formulating her own integrative approach.
In 2008 John Wiley & Sons published her book, Empowering Dialogues Within. Eventually, Cohen-Posey developed a psychotherapy tool, Brain Change Cards®, that added neuroscience validity to parts work and made it even more effective. From 2013-2018 she traveled the country presenting workshops for PESI that always included her unique approach to using art to access parts.
Since 2021 she has immersed herself in mindfulness-based methods. She has been the director of Professional Psychological Services in Lakeland Florida and is currently an associate clinician at LifeStance health. Facilitating clients as they manage life’s challenges is her inspiration, joy, and source of new knowledge.
